4bie Oil Temp Gauge Not Working?

Recommended Posts

cammmy

Hey Guys. When I turn my car on the oil guage measures the amount of oil in the sump as it is supposed to, however once the car is going and it is supposed to show oil temp the needle always seems to be sitting at the cold side hardly ever going above the minimum point. Where abouts should the needle usually sit when the car is at operating temp? (water coolant temp about half way)

The sensor is screwed into the back of the sump. Check the wiring going to it is secure

Had a look and the bit that sticks out of the sump looks worse for wear. Gonna have a look to see if I can find a bit to replace it.

I would also check the wiring for the sensor, this runs between the engine and the transfer box. Now i have the engine out of mine the wiring to these sensors has gone embrittled and just broke up in my hands. you should be able to check it with a multimeter without to much trouble.

Look for two red wires, 224 and 225. They can be traced to the black and brown harness connectors behind the LH headlight.

Awesome, cheers for all the help. I don't have a multimeter so i'll have to go get one. The bit that screws into the sump is dripping oil, not badly but I assume that means it needs replacing?

Cheers
