I've pulled my spare apart ready to reco. It's really not that difficult and the centre diff is a sealed unit anyhow.

mine does need a reco because the splines inside have 80% striped themselves.

eg it will turn by hand but any power and it just slips.

Is someone else doing your recon?

Peter,

any chance of a few pictures as you go.

Also, do you have any information on the differences between the Mi16x4 transfer box and the stronger T16 setup. I understand its mainly the splines which are stronger.

Just me, but mine is in good nick, except for the speedo drive. Any machine shop speciallising in gear cutting should be able to replace broken/worn bits.

Which spline internally?

I've put mine back together for now, but will be doing a full reco. in the next few months when I mate it up to the close ratio box with the 4.75:1 diff.

Hi

I had my transfer case shaft splines rebuilt about 5 years ago. This was done by a company specialising in gear repair/production.

Cost was a fraction of the price of new replacements.

Its the main input splines i beleive, appartently it only had front wheel drive on the road? although i'm not 100% sure on that but i can see as i look in to the input shaft, where the final drive fits into it, that the splines are almost non existant
