Mi16 Performance Clutch?

Recommended Posts

Guest Skeleton

Hey I will be needing to replace the clutch on a 405 mi16 im about to buy, because im going to be transplanting a Turbocharged GTi6 engine into it would it make more sence installing a performance clutch instead, even with the stock 1.9L engine in it at the moment? Trying to save from buying and installing 2 seperate clutchs.

Also does anyone know of places that supply performance clutchs for the 405 mi16?

UK guys use Helix organic or sinter clutches while continental guys tend to get Sachs sinter clutches.

are you going to use gti-6 gearbox and flywheel or mi16 one?

Well the peiter at Dp engineering told me that the std mi16 gearbox will hold up to 420 nm so I was going to keep that one. Not sure about the flywheel was thinking possible lightened one. Will it be easier to get a performance clutch with the gti6 box?

i would be inclined to stick with the mi box as its stronger than the gti6 one although having 6 gears would be an advantage when running a turbo but then are you going to want to go more than 150mph

i'd use a 205 GTI 1.9 box, you need longer gears to use all that torque, plus they are evenly spread.

I desided to go with an OMP clutch from DP-Engineering, for the non violent changes.

OMP sprung multi puck plate 215 mm Mi16

OMP uprated pressure plate 215 mm Mi16

For around 320 Euro (less VAT)

I also think the Spec clutch is good.

My mate is runnig a Stage 3+ spec clutch on his Audi and it will handle much torque at the same time as it's very driveable.
