Hello people,

Is my handbrake light ment to come on when i corner sharply?

Is it to do with the diff or something like that? Or is it a fault?

Cheers

Check brake fluid level. If it is low, when you go round a corner the fluid moves to one side and the level drops, making the warning light come on :)

Nope, plenty of brake fluid.

Any other ideas?

Sorry to ressuract an oldie, but I have a similar problem, not when going round corners but braking fairly heavily. The problem is intermittent and the light flickers rather than staying on solid, also feel a sensation through the pedal similar to ABS kicking in but not quite the same. (ABS works fine and had a fair bit of work done on it this time last year)

Checked the fluid, thats ok, all pads seem to have plenty of life in them, front are a year old and 14 thousand miles on them, rears are two years old, and less than 15k. Rears seem the worst off but have a good few mills left, about twice as much as my 306 estate which wasnt giving any warning lights!

Any ideas what could be causing this? The rear brakes dont seem to do much because the discs are always fairly crusty, plus theres never anybody/thing in the rear, this seems to be the case on most pugs of the era I have seen tho..

Dont mind changing the rear discs and pads, but just wondering if anyone else has had a smilar problem so I dont go wasting my pennies.

Cheers

The only time I had an intermittent handbrake warning light was on my old 205 XLD. It was intermittent at first and gradually came on more and more until it was on permanently. It turned out this was a warning for the oil pressure switch, had it replaced and it never happened again. This might be the same on a 405....

Hmm, interesting as the oil pressure indicator is all over the place and never gives the same reading when turining power on and off again, but this has always been the case. However there is the slight grinding feeling under the pedal to take into account. Any ideas where I'd find this switch to have a nose?

Poking around on the net it could be something as simple as a bad earth on the pad sensor so I shall check that later.
