Hub Nut Size

Recommended Posts

rikky

need to remove my driveshafts to lift engine out and need to unscrew the hub nuts. i initially thought they were 36mm and the 36mm socket i got is a bit too big. can anyone confirm the exact size of them; are they 34mm?

not at home so i can't check, hopefully someone here can :D

cheers

35mm originaly but some aftermarket is 34mm however, if it´s a 35 the 36socket will do fine.

Yep I concur. The exact size is 35mm and I have never been able to find a socket that size, so if anybody knows a source..........

I use a 36mm and its fine, used it loads of times, must have taken driveshafts out of both cars at least 10 times and never had any probs.

You just need a long, strong bar!!!!

If you´re ever in sweden "Biltema" has one 3/4" 35socket for about 6£ ;)

In sweden i know of about 3 places that has 35 sockets for rather good prices.. if the price wasnt an issue the local tool-shop could order one for me, they wanted about 30£.

35 is rare to find but not impossible in any way.

well 36 seems to break off easily and i may risk rounding the corners so will scour around for a 34/35. cheers people :)

had so many problems getting bolts etc off this car to get engine out. i'm going to just cable-tie it back together when i get around to it :D

With a 6-corner socket the risk of rounding the corners are wery small, if it´s a "round corner" socket, it´s = zero

Seriously, if it´s a 6-corner socket and the nut is a standard 35 (that most hub-nut´s are) it´s just to go for it, it won´t brake, i´ve never heard of any incidents and basicly everyone is using 36 sockets for the purpose.

It´s a huge diffrent to use a 11socket on a 10 nut/bolt than to use a 36 socket on a 35 bolt..

But then again, somebody have to be the first ;)

I think you can find a 35 if you just search around. :)

I have a 35mm socket, welded to 1m of 50x25 RHS. Can't recall the brand, but it's a 6 point 3/4" drive.

Oh cheers Eric but I've never been to Sweden yet! But then I did see some photos recently of some lovely ladies in a Stockholm nightclub!!!
