Petrol Tank Breather

Hi,

 

 

I have fitted alloy fuel tank in the back of the car, i am fitting a breather but do I need a one way valve and do I just place it on the outside of the car???

I had a boss welded into the tank and used something similar to this-

It vents to a small tank behind the rear bumper although its never vented any fuel.
