Recommended Posts

MiniGibbo

As above really, got an engine on a stand and i plan to remove the sump to clean out the last 15 years of gunk but am unsure if there is a product i can use to clear out the inside of the block while i am there and/or if its even worth doing it..?

Is there an engine rebuilder/engineer near??

These lads usually steam clean blocks etc, a bit like a over-sized dish washer...

They'd only take a few pound...

Are you stripping down the engine or just dropping the sump? If you aren't taking off the head, and then taking out the crank, oil pump, rods and pistons etc then I don't think it'll be worth your while. If you can't get it all properly clean then all you'll do is mobilise otherwise stationary crap and risk getting it into the oil ways and blocking these, or making it's way to the bearing surfaces etc.

I plan to take the head off to rebuild it (peace of mind/easier on a stand than in the bay) and dont plan to take out the pistons/crank etc but thought for the cost of a sump gasket it would be good to pop it off and clean any gunk out..?

Theres loads of local engineering firms about and ill most defianlty take that advice for the head..!
