Can't Remove The Main Fascia From A Phase 1

Recommended Posts

mastakilla

Hi!

Today I have spent a couple of hours trying to remove the main fascia from my '87 phase 1 gti. I have removed the three screws A,B,C but still the f***er does not seem to want to come off.

It looks like there are some other screws but I can't figure where they are!

The haynes manual doesn't say anything about removing the fascia so I'm stuck.

I'd really like to have it off as it is broken in some points, some things have to be rebuilt and I want to clean the air paths with soap and water.

Any help is greatly welcome!

have you removed the two nuts that are on studs poking through the bulkhead that are under the scuttle panel?

No I have not...So I have to remove the wipers and scuttle panel to access them? And they are actually on the outside of the car?

Yes they are outside under the scuttle trim, and if you have a sunroof I can't remember if you need to remove / move the vacuum reservoir for access or not! It will become apparent if necessary.

While its better to remove the scuttle panel you can actually just take out the 3 screws and lift up each corner to get the ratchet in, ive just done it to mine :)

Thanks a lot guys, I have removed the scuttle trim and managed to remove the fascia too...why they have placed two nuts there is beyond me...anyway, while I was at it I have cleaned very well the area and lubricated the wiper shafts, which can't hurt!
