Recommended Posts

Is this a known issue? Any ideas where to look for bad connections? It worked 1 out of 5 times for no apparent reason..

The wiring loom can fail where it runs between the A-pillar and the door, and the locking motor (that controls the system) in the drivers door can also fail.

I'd hazard a guess at the Master Module thingy in the drivers door also, mine was playing up at it turned out to be this.

If a later model with plugs that screw into the A pillar, the pins here can corrode

Also check the earth plug on the left hand side of the steering column is located correctly and the same with the plug on the black box in the same area.

Thanks!

Where more specific is that earth? Are we down towards the pedals, door or behind the dash?

My car is LHD, so I'm guessing we are on the right hand side of the steering column (hence not towards the door)?

Also, I'll check my Hayes manual for "earth points" but I'm not sure if it has a list of those..

I can only comment on a rhd, but they are on the steering column itself. An earth block that is bolted to the column then a plug that plugs into it.

The black box is on a bracket that bolts to the fwd column mounting studs / nuts.

Edit: I have a speedo cable to swap ( maybe today ) so I will take some pics when the cowls are off.

The brown plug going into the black box. The earth is further up towards the steering wheel.
