Obviously would come up a lot better with a decent clean!Over £2k I'd say

These cars are bought purely for the shell being solid in areas like inner wings, bootfloor and chassis rails etc.Automatics with bigger gearbox tunnels command slightly higher price.

If you come across a mk1 RS1600 or mk2 RS1800(BDA engined cars)you are talking serious money!Mint examples £40k+

Fords aren't my thing it's true.. But then I've never been a fan of wearing a cap with matching upstood collar.

Inability to appreciate other marques/models based on their individual merits makes you, in my opinion, a fanboy rather than a "proper" car enthusiast. Especially when criticisms are based on outdated cliches. I suspect that the list of outdated cliches relating to BMW owners would stretch far further than those about Fords - people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

To be clear, if you want to take such a narrow minded view of the car world then that is your right. But a true enthusiast would be able to recognise and appreciate positives no matter what type of stereotypical owner drives a particular car. I used to have a similar attitude to you when I was in my early twenties, and would slag off Novas/Corsas etc, and every other typical Max Power boy racer car. But as much as I dislike those cars, I wouldn't turn my nose up if you showed me something that had been restored/modified to an extremely high standard. In fact I'm currently following a project on Pistonheads where some IT guy is building an amazing Mk3 Fiesta Si (a car I would have absolutely no intersest in usually), almost entirely himself, but he's retro fitting just about every modern function/gadget that you'd get on a higer spec new car, and he's doing it in a way that looks like it's rolled off the production line like that. It's fascinating to follow, but I could so easily have misse dout if I'd just ignored it because "it's a s*itty Fiesta".

There's not many people that say a mk1/mk2 escort is crap lol,or any Ford RS for that matter.

Funnily enough I had a pal who's Dad bought him a Mk1 Mexico, had it restored (and sprayed bright yellow) and gave it to him for his 18th birthday.

He was too ashamed of the 'chav' image to use it for long, he flogged it and replaced it with a Renault 5.

Had pretty much zero street cred even amongst petrol-heads back then.

This was in 1990 though.....

I've just bought my old man a rally day in a MkII Escort, I reckon it'll be brilliant.

That metro looks like Thunderbird 4 (the one underwater) :D

yes wasn't too long ago. he's had it remapped since then. very smooth for and old 2wd engine. i went for a drive in it and pulled away from an r6 so it can roll on a bit but everything shakes and rattles. its full of camping gear and gets used for what it is.

you like saphs but don't like mk1's and 2's, theres a reason there still being used for rallies to this day lol, the handling is really good and predictable acording to the drivers i've spoken to

I can't remember the last time I saw a Sapphire on a rally, and only remember one 3 door GroupA car out on the tarmac, but lost count of the escorts and often 205's!

Some nice cars there, prefer N/A YB's to turbo ones.

Saw the monte escorts rs1800 rep a couple of month back, looks very nice and well worth the money.

My mate has a nice mk1 Mexico, low owners very solid shell and very genuine, unrestored valued at £13k!

Really does make me laugh though when out spectating on rallies and you here people say "I've got one of those" and a GP4 escort goes by.Then to actually find out they have a road car,FAR from a full GP4 rallycar lol

Just don't understand why some many lads choke sucking old escort Wang..

They look s*it.

Yes they were rallied buy so where so many other cars including Skodas.. Do they also give you the horn.?

Mega cash on an old car. E30 m3 hands down which funnily enough carries a better pedigree.

they were great cars when they were affordable, have owned a few in the past,mk1 rs 2000 rep,mk2 rs 2000 rep,few capris, the price now is a joke and i see where gibbo is coming from with his m3 statement as the price of rs's will fall sharply in the next 10-15 years as the market shrinks like it did for mg's etc,its an era thing, what you grew up with or lusted after as a kid, teenager, young man
