Anyone Own Or Driven A 335D?

Recommended Posts

I have secured a new job, but its in the most western part of the country, so I was looking for a nice car, where I can do away with the land rover,c2 and keep the 205 for weekends when home. But looking to see if anybody here has used one or knows friends with one?

I know I could have a 320d, I know I could get a 330d, but, I love the look of the 335's, and they're basically giving them away! :)

One of my customers/friends has one and we had a few fun drives with him in his 335d and me in my 205 and I was a bit quicker overall.

He then without telling me took it to a company called DMS and then suggested we had a little play one visit.

He was now the faster car.

So my advice Dan is to buy the 335d and let DMS do their stuff :D

No experience with 335d's but my old boss has had several 330d tourings. He has had his current one re-mapped and it is fantastic, he can squeeze nearly 70mpg out of it along with increases in power. Great car.

A mapped 335d will blow a e46 m3 away and still return 40mpg.

I've got a 535D m sport with a DMS re-map and it's a stunning car, everything you could every wish for in a car - I've heard the 335d is even quicker due to the weight. If you do buy one before doing anything make sure you have the swirl flaps removed, check out this link -

Best of luck finding one!

A mate of mine has a non M (18" wheels, small bumpers) 335d Coupe with, I think a 330bhp DMS chip.

It is an awesome machine and makes my Z4M feels a bit slow, mid-gear-wise anyhow.

He says he gets 40 mpg from it driven carefully, 20-odd when he gives it the beans.

You gonna commute to west wales from porthcawl? Will cost you as much in brakes and tyres as diesel! my old man used to do swansea-milford as a commute, now he does swansea-cardiff and he says brakes and tyres now last >2 times as long. Imagine they arn't cheap on a 335d, just something to be aware of.

It wont be a commute car. Just a nice, comfy car with decent performance and reliability.

Ill be doing about 80 miles on a Friday and 80 on a Monday morning. Its going to replace the c2 and Landy you see.

Surely a typo? I can get 50mpg average at cruising at 70mph out of my Audi TDI 170, around 53mpg empty

Nope. He used to get around 55-60mpg when I caught a lift to work with him a couple of years ago. Has since be remapped and he says nearly 70mpg. Its a 2002 330d touring so with the earlier engine as well. Its far from standard mind, there may be other things helping to contribute to this, I think there's a longer gearbox in it, he is a remarkably careful driver as well.

A friend has a re mapped 330d. Absolutely flies. I certinly wouldn't like to come up against it in a mi 205.

When you say you love the look of 335's, don't they all look the same? The only difference from a 320d being the amount of exhaust pipes?

I am assuming you may have compared a 335d m sport to a 320d SE model hence the difference in styling?

Would be interested to hear the differences between them if this is the case though?

Thanks

Jon

A 330d is all the car you'll ever need to be fair, but you'll get a higher standard spec in the 335d and it just looks cooler with the dual exhaust, both can be driven sensibly to return decent mpg. (circa 5-8 mpg less in the 335d)

Also to bear in mind the 335d only comes in automatic, where as you have a choice in the 330d.

You can't be found in the wrong gear in either but the 335d will pick up quicker and stay on it for longer, (so to speak).
