Replacement Air Horn

Recommended Posts

Rob_the_Sparky

Has anyone out there tried to get a replacement for the standard ph1.5 air horns? Mine have been dying for years and now the MOT is due and of course it looks like it has given up the ghost, will confirm the electircals at lunchtime but very likely.

Anyway. I'd like to keep the original type horn and was wondering if anyone knows if the originals are available or if someone had identified a compatible aftermarket one.

Probably a long shot but you know, worth a try :)

What is the matter with yours, I have repaired a couple now by carefully cleaning all the years of crap out of the horns themselves, so as long as the compressor is working OK then you may be able to rescue yours. I found a combination of some duck oil and compressed air and a good shake seemed to work best.

you can still get the original type, though most motorfactors do something far far cheaper from which you can either use the twin horns or just the compressor.

but as Tom said, you can usually rescue most.

Not sure of the problem yet apart from the fact that the compressor is not running. Had a quick play at lunchtime and taking the electrical connections on and off a few times made no difference. Was considering taking the compressor off and stripping it down but not doing that in the work car park!

Anyway need to get a meter on the wires first before taking too much off. Hope it is a relay issue but somehow I doubt it...

what about 306 ones? i'm in the process of turning my 205 into a bare shell and noticed the horn wiring and horns were all damaged / bent / fubar, so might try and chuck some 306 ones on there..

This particular bit of Peugeot logic always makes me chuckle. You can just see them sat around discussing the new idea of a 1.9 205 GTI.

Hmm, first we must make the interior nice by putting in 1/2 leather seats. We must also make it have more power by putting in the 1.9 engine and a longer gearbox.

What about the brakes?

Well we can keep the front brakes the same size as the 1.6.

But don't they need to be bigger for the more powerful car?

No no no, instead we will fit a louder horn! Hee Haw time for a pint of Pernod?

the S16 had the same horn as a 205, however any other ones higher spec will have a pair of el;ectric snail type, one low and one high tone, has to be said these are pretty bloody loud.

a 406 is a good donor, they are nicely hidden away from road crap in front of the wheels hidden by the wheelarch liners.

my 2.0 8v xsi had twin horns... they were loud. i actually thought most of the xsi/gti6/s16 306 ones were the same

Clearly, the garlic was strong that day!

I'm sure I have one or two in my stash. One, of which, is a new aftermarket one.
