Wing Removal

Recommended Posts

Pazzapug

Ok so after numerous times of trying to sort my leak out on passenger side, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and remove the wing! I've tried all sorts to illiminate this leak but Iv been defeated!!

Will taking the wing off be opening a can of worms or is it normally straight forward, Iv read the Haynes manual and it looks pretty straight forward!! I've done a rear beam swap etc but never a wing! Any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Getting the bolts out is easy enough, however cutting through the sealant needs a very slow careful and methodical approach. You need to get the wing free of the sealant before trying to part it from the car unless you want to bend it into a mess getting it off.

Ok thanks, can it be removed without the bumber/trim being taken off or not as it says in Haynes you need to remove bumber first!!:-0

The bumper will have to be removed first as there are bolts int the lower corner of the wing, behind the bumper that need to be removed.

As you can see from this pic, there is a band of seam sealer all the way along (the creamy yellowy stuff is the original seam sealer), so take your time removing the wing, and be gentle!

My wing was scrap anyway, so removed it 'enthusiastically' without removing all of the sealant first- as you can see its strong stuff and easily wrecked the wing!

There's a couple of bolts at the front base of the wing behind the bumper unfortunately. Good luck.

I am having the same problem - water draining inside my car.

i got a very very strong adhesive and placed it all over the inner part . you can see there are some chips and stuff just cover everything and it helped and fixed the problem .

tomorrow will post a photo. check also the drains of the sunroof . there are 4 : 2 forward and 2 backwards.

I have a non sunroof! :-) Iv gone mental with sealant and it still finds a way in!! Iv blocked the drain hole up now and redrilled to take it through the engine bay into the bottom of the wheel arch with hose!!! Fingers crossed!

it's a nice idea i thought about it , but the bay area where the wipers and their motor sits , is designed in a way that the very sides are lower than the whole bay , which means water will naturally go to the sides .

the problem in our case is different - its not the hole only of the drain , its where it drains to . that's the rusty area which should be treated.
