Power Steering Refurb, Day After

Recommended Posts

de Noir

hi guys

I need second opinion from someone who did steering refurb

it all started with 'loose' feeling at the wheel, wheelspin when accelerating and slight lack of control at speed

issue was duly identified as steering rack internals worn to irrepairable

pulled the spare steering rack out of the stash, and got it refurbished (new rack bearings, new rubber, nicely greased)

even got hands on brand new old stock power steering cylinder for a symbolic price

fitted everything

wheel tracking done

'loose' feeling gone, wheelspin gone, full control is back

but:

between 11' and 13' o clock position steering feels kind of 'overtightened'

and it doesn't self center to 12' o clock, kind of stops few degs fore 12'

no need to mention, I do not like it

is this a kind of 'new part needing running-in' conflict?

will this go away after a period of 'running in'?

forgot to mention, I'm running 309 wishbones

maybe this is connected?

but the old 'loose' rack did center itself.

any similar experience?

thanks!

Something rubbing after fitting? UJ for example? Maybe a UJ fitted differantly ( re fitted 180 deg for example) and now shows up wear? Tyres pumped up?!

Matt
