Is It Wrong That I Want.....

A Citroen 2CV!!!

Now, don't get me wrong, I know they're not great!! They're an acquired taste, you wouldn't want to have a crash in one, you wouldn't want to be seen in one, they handle crap, they have more body roll than a barge in a storm, they fall apart at the slighest thought of a deep breath and they generally aren't a highly thought of car....

But.......

They're SO kewl!!!

My mum has had two Dolly's (as pictured), and he used to love them!! I never really saw the attraction till recently when I've got to say I keep seeing them and thinking about how much I'd love to have one, just for the fun factor!!

The have loads of body roll, but even though the car in leaning at 45degrees they're still on four wheels and driving fine!!

My sister even passed her driving test in one of my mums ones, the first one she had, third time lucky... Think that was more a novelty factor for the tester as he'd never been in one, or a fear factor that he'd have to go out in one again...!!

Maybe I need to go and drive one and get shot of the thought... I remember my mum saying about the needle bouncing off the speedo pin at 70 on her way down a hill, they really aren't made for any speed...

Still want one for now though lol

I thought these things were meant to be quite fun. My neighbor did a race for charity in one and he was rather enthusiastic about the old things. I too think they are cool, but not for me.

It must be the weather or something but today I've decided I 'NEED' a triumph dolomite. The dolly I want is nowhere near as bad as the piece of dolly s*it your hankering after though :P:D

Haha, the gear stick is weird, the hand break is weird... the car is weird to be fare!!

As for the dolly naming, the red and white, or green and white were called "Dolly" as their model name...

They do a 24hr race in Ireland... There's a Citroen mechanic near me who competes yearly, Has done all sorts to his one though...!!

Thats not too bad, especially as I read the topic title and came in here expecting to see the words 'Dad' and 'Reacharound'

Sicko!!!

But strangely the reason for the subject title none the less lmao

Agreed that it could do with some engine upgrade or something similar, but it's the massive basicness of the whole thing that I like...

Am I right in my memory that they were originally designed for the French pig farmers to transport pigs to and from market??

This was our family car for the first 8 years of my life and man did we have fun with it. It was a canary yellow w. I still have that warm feeling (didn't just piss myself) when I think of it. And - as crappy it may seem - it never broke down. It just kept going. Gear shift is really very handy as you have something to hold to when going arround the corners. I really like the "open air" concept. You tilt up the windows and roll back the roof and just enjoy the sun. It wasn't meant to be quick then and it isn't now. It's just meant to take you a to b reliably. The fun part is there only as a side effect. I remember we all cried when we sold it but we were "upscaleing" to -strangely enough- a Renault 4. Another fun car I would recommend you try.

Hey!

Not at all - they are an incredibly fun bit of motoring. you need to keep the speed up to make progress.

Not ideal for a long journey although still possible.

My dad has been restoring a 1958 2CV AZ (425cc) for the past few years - who'd of though a car of this vintage has speed sensitive wipers amongst many innovative features.

Below is the day he took delivery.

The 1015cc engine from the Ami Super or GS fits nicely and will get you up to 90mph. Failing that a flat twin BMW bike engine ;)

I always fancied one of its variants
