205 Xs Back On Four Wheels After 16 Months!

Recommended Posts

thought i'd put up a little post as I'm pretty pleased with myself for finally getting round to putting the front end back on my XS! so it has come off the axle stands for the first time since I blew the gearbox in march 2011. I decided to start breaking it to sell it then after getting rid of the engine, didnt have the heart, so its been sat on the drive since being used as a shed :P

it is now a rolling shell so I can now move it to my new house (moved two months ago and the cars been stuck at my old house!)

luckily I only moved round the corner so I'll hopefully be able to roll it round to my new place, which has a car port leading to a nice car shaped bit of concrete in the back garden, so I'll have somewhere to work on it and get it back to the standard it deserves to be at!

althought thanks to Daz (tesstuff) I am seriously considering going the V6 route with it for the pure power, and keeping the GT for the handling.

and to think I contempated scrapping it!

another 205 saved :)

today is a good day :D

Sugar!! Sorry that I seem to have corrupted you mate with all our talk about torque, and I suppose going for a drive was just plain stupid :(

But congrats for getting it on four wheels :D:lol:

you sarcastic bugger :P well you saw my grin ear to ear when I was in yours! instant power! I keep thinking to myself 'thats how I want an engine to behave'

and you can get the v6 engine and gearbox for £150 on fleabay...

so that's pretty good bhp/£1 by my books!

although the whole braking system would need to be upgraded, so that would offset the cheapness.

I think my plan for it could be:

1)put the tu3s from the GT into it and return it to standard. (the 16v tu will be going in the GT when I've got the last few parts)

a) put it through mot and sell

B) put it through MOT and keep as second car (with XS prices going up, it might be wise to hang on to it for a bit)

2)put the 106gti engine into the xs, whilst using the GT as a daily then give the GT a bit of TLC/restore, and maybe an engine swap

3) sell as is. I'ts still up in the for sale section anyway, and gumtree, it just has front susp set up attached now so trailering will be easier

4 dry store it for a while till the GT is close to how I want it and then get it out when I've got time for another project

Not seen anyone do a full restoration on an Xs, maybe that is your vocation?

I know I would like to have a go in a healthy example, and see if it lives up to its reputation. :)

A quick pic today from the back next to the GT

I only got a little bit completely soaked pushing it round onto the side drive!

next step is to push it round to its new home, but that involves crossing a 5 lane road at a busy junction, so I'm gonna have to think about how to do it!
