Hi, im looking at buying a 406 v6 coupe engine for my 306. Engine is from an R reg (1997) and have heard early ones are the ones to go for, less complicated etc, is this going to be the early engine?

Also, hows the way to go about the removal of the ECU to keep it unlocked?

Many thanks

Matt

A 97 engine is the earlier one, they changed to the newer multiplexed engine in late 2000. The ECU cannot be unlocked by disconnecting it while the ignition is on. A chip inside the ECU needs reprogramming, i can do this for you.

If you are going to use aftermarket management its probably worth going for the newer engine as it made more power...

Not true Ade, there are three options. D8 , D9 and shall we call it D8 and a half. This is the one to go for. Newer engine without multiplex.

Best to go for the D8 and a half :)

Tesstuff, Are you saying that a D8 and a half uses the newer ES9J4S engine with MP7.0 managment?

I am saying that the myth that there are two choices, D8 non multiplex and D9 multiplex is wrong.

There was a crossover. Those in the know call it the D8 and a half.

What I know for certain is that it is the ES9J4S engine and it is non multiplex. Don't know the ecu used without asking.

I have heard this, but never seen it

Also dubious as to whether any cars like this exist as Servicebox only show the J4 engine+ecu for the D8, whereas the D9 does list J4 and J4S.

so it may be that its the other way round....

Hmmm, insurance company want another £400 on top of my premium on my 306 one for the 406 coupe. Rip off sods. Im nearly 30, and they want the equivalant of £700 a year, for a wanked out 406. Great!

I'm sure you keep the ECU unlocked (at least the early ones) by disconeecting the ecu whilst the engine is running. I've never had to send away any of the ecus iv'e obtained to be unlocked when this method of removal was used.

I thought that the crossover via the D8.5 was the esj94 engine but with multiplex loom lol but I could be wrong of course
