Immobiliser Stay Or Go?

Recommended Posts

mech205eng

1.9 engine is coming out of 205 shell tonight, i've sold the engine, loom and ecu to a mate. I'll be putting a gti6 engine in, using an unlocked ECU and a plug and play loom from Spiky. Am i correct that the 205 immobiliser will come out with the loom and my mate will have to use it when he puts my 1.9 into his 1.6 (which has had its immobliser removed) and when i wire the gti6 up i'll be ok with no immobiliser???

Depends how the immobiliser has been installed - sometimes they are tied into the engine loom, sometimes not.

Peugeot never fitted one, Only the dealer fit items which again can be a lottery, But if it is one of those I'm surprised it still works

If it was a propper immobiliser fitted I will only wish you good luck as those were designed to be really tricky to uninstall. With all the wires being black and going places you'd never imagine.

You must be lucky in Slovenia, Most here can be bypassed in a few seconds, In all the car's I've seen I can say 2 have been installed as they should

If not properly installed - why have one at all when it's easyer to just have an ordinary flick switch hidden somewhere to cut the power to the ecu or fuel pump for example...

Most "professionally" installed aftermarket immobilisers in the UK at least are as Miles describes - very poorly installed, easy to bypass, and often the cause of reliability issues down the line.

Even if they are a better than average install, to someone that has indepth knowledge of 205 electrics they are easy to bypass - their real purpose is as a deterent to would be thieves, and to slow down anyone attempting to steal the car.

I have an invoice for a 'professional' immobiliser installation and it's awful. The soldering is poor and the insulation tape looks as if it was fitted by someone with oven gloves and false teeth.

Solder? Insulation tape? That's a quality job compared to some

It's bare twisted together wires and scotchlocks (that have almost severed the tapped wire in two) that are the hallmarks of a truely shoddy job, with bonus points for making all the connections within 6" of the ignition barrel...

the insulation tape looks as if it was fitted by someone with oven gloves and false teeth.

The mental image that's painting is pure comedy gold :D

It's definately an original device, and still works a treat, only managed to get the engine out last night so cant be sure of it yet, might tackle the loom tonight. Does anybody have a standard immobiliser still functioning in there car after an engine swap. Or does everyone just bin them??

It wont be original, though may be a period fitted device, as mentioned.

I did an engine management swap on my 205 and no engine loom wires were involved in the immobiliser, so it still works as intended.

I think someone should tell these experts that a 6mm wire does not go with a 2mm wire, Even thinking of water flow you will get a resistance between the two
