Leaking Radiator

Recommended Posts

jason7579

Hi all,

I have performed a basic search and can't find this particular problem.

I have deceloped a leak from my radiator recently. It is coming from one of the plastic blanking plugs but I am not sure if it the washer or plug itself.

I have perfored a search and found out that the radiator uses a M22 x 1.5 blanking plug - in your opinion would it be better to:

  • buy some tigerseal or could you suggest some kind of good quality sealant. Take the plug out, apply sealant liberally and plug it back up.
  • Buy a new oe plug and washer from peugeot/motorfactors
  • buy a plug and washer from a local hardware shop of the same size

Also would it be necessary to replace with another plastic plug or could I use a metal one? Not sure if it would make a difference with the heat and water?

Just for reference it is the M22 x 1.5 as seen in this picture (the right hand side one)...

Sorry for being a bit dense, I have searched and found

but it doesn't stat if it has a WD Captive Seal. Could you let me know what kind of seal this is, as searching for it doesn't seem to bring up much information.

Thanks

Looks right, also says WD at the end of the part number which also suggests its right.

you can buy them from Peugeot, I would try just the seal.

0243 21 Compound Seal, £1.23.

0243 06 Cyl-Block Plug £2.70.

Don't know if the replacement plug will be plastic or brass, I have seen both on replacement radiators, I may even have one at home somewhere.

Thanks all.

I'll try peugeot first then as that would work out a lot cheaper. If I can't find a local supplier postage on the link above is around £6.

Another job to add to the ever growing list.

Went to Peugeot this morning and picked up a plug and seal, it was the metal type (12mm hex if it's any help). This is what I found when taking out the old one...

Was half split when taking it out, I just broke it completely once removed.
