Well I'm thinking I might trawl through eBay and find myself a dash from one of those as an upgrade from my really rare phase1 dash!

Same as the one before, still overpriced just because it has some stickers on it!

I'd just go and buy one elsewhere and pocket the masses of change.

No, i'd just rather one that's a bit more used and hence usable, for more realistic money.

A lot of money for something that will sit in a garage - the value is in the mileage and condition, both of which will deteriorate if you use it. Wonder if it will sell at that price.

What's the going price for average/good examples?

That's getting de-stickered shortly and Group B stuff generally is starting to head north - starting with competition cars with history and trickling down to road cars. T16's are odd with values for road spec cars as they're still well behind RS200's, Sport quattros and the like (and that's ignoring the odd cheapie which pops up) but the competition cars fetch massive money when they rarely come up for sale.

Many who own them haven't a clue as they bought back when they were cheap. I was asked recently to quote for a big Group B collection and the chap genuinely had no idea where to start; we ended up with figure of "several hundred k" for an ex-works T16 but he also had a BX4TC in there which he valued at sod-all (roadgoing car) plus some seriously rare animals which you simply couldn't replace, insured or not.

No idea whether this is right or wrong - but put simply, people are investing in proper old cars (and nobody can argue that any genuine ex-works rally car isn't proper) and that's pushing values up. You buy, have some fun with your money and then when you sell you don't see most of your investment wiped out. I'm still not convinced that "investing" in competition cars which you plan to use is a surefire thing if you factor in running and prep costs etc but what do I know?!

I can remember T16's selling for £25k - but then again I can also remember when you could buy a scabby F40 for less than £100k and entry level now is 3 times that, with Classiche documented cars hitting half a million. And 288 GTO's now heading towards twice that.
