Changing Fan Cowling On A 306, Without Removing Rad?

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

the 306 nearly overheated today as the high speed fan has now packed up the low speed side has seized too so i think its time to change them over before the weekend.

im hoping to be able to do it without draining the system as i know what a bugger they are to bleed, so im thinking of removing the front bumper and doing it that way?

anyone know if this is possible?

afraid its not possible to swap the cowling, especially if the car has aircon, without removing the radiator.

however you should be able to remove the fans individually with the bumper removed, they are secured with three 10mm nuts.

I've done one with leaving the rad in, but it was a pain in the backside. I forget of anything was in the way, but if it was - the grinder moved it out the way. The lugs on the bottom of the rad which go through the cowling can be a pain

was thinking about just changing the fans over but wasnt sure if there was enough room to get them out?

with regards to the lugs: i thought maybe lifting the rad out of the cowling or is that a no no

im really loathed to drain the system tbh but if its the easiest way.....

With fluids in its a bit restricting to how much you can lift the rads up to get the lugs out. Torch and a couple of pry bars will help. Good excuse to change the coolant over though and remove the rad. Watch the air con pipes though. Easily bent.

bumper off and I reckon you can just whip the fans out without touching anything else :)

just had a look at the spare set i have here and i ddjust noticed you can remove the fan blades from the motors giving loads of room to change them over without removing the cowling at all.

bonus :D

might need to change a relay too but thats straight forward, failing that its the bitron controller at fault.

im also going to fit a manual switch (hidden) to turn them both on in case of emergencies

cheers for the help fellas ;)
