Generally Running Rough. Flat Spot And Throttle Pumping

Recommended Posts

Weser

I have been searching but have not found anything helpful yet.

I have had my standard 1.9 Gti on the road now for a couple of months. I don't drive it much its just a bit of fun on a nice day. It had been off the road for a while and since having it on the road I have noticed some issues which hopefully someone can shed light for me.

When it is started from cold it is fine. Turns over twice and fires perfectly. When driving before it has fully warmed up it seems to have what I would call a "dead spot" at 2750 rpm. Now just when I am changing gears. It just feels like something is holding it back? If you take it a little pass 3k rpm its normal again. When it is warmed up it is fine with no deadpsot.

If I turn it off once it has been started whether it is warmed up of still cold (worse when it is cold) it turns over while and I have to keep pumping the pedal to get it to start.

I think it is overfueling a bit would this cause these issues? Also it doesnt seem to tick over high until its warm like it used to as well. Can anyone help?

sounds much like a dead AFM, possibly fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump also.

Thanks welshpug. So you think its on the fuel side of things. Would a wrongly set up AFM (giving bad fueling) cause the issues? I wonder if the spring has lost its tension a bit whilst it has stood? Would the AFM cause the starting issues though?

Fuel pump seems to be pumping fine. How can I test the pressure regulator? Its nothing to do with this SAD device you dont think?
