306 Clutch On A 205

Recommended Posts

Strictly_Derv

I'm just after some confirmation really. So I've got a 306 DT engine in my 205, currently using the 205 box and clutch. Ive got a bigger turbo on which causes the clutch to slip at peak power (over 168bhp) so I will be fitting a paddle clutch for a 306 DT and the 306 box for longer gearing.

So can I use the original clutch cable? Drive shafts? Speedo drives?

I've been searching but have heard so many different answers.

Max.

Does anyone know? I'm planning to order the clutch tomorrow.

Ideally you should use the 205 speedo drive, but a Phase 1 306 item will work if possibly over-reading a little. If it's a OPhase 2 or 3 gearbox then you'll need to swap the speedo drive over, as they were electronic rather than cable driven.

Driveshafts I think will fit the early box but probably not the later ones - just swap the diff over from the 205 'box if you get the issue of the NS driveshaft not seating fully.

As for the clutch, I'm assuming that it's a pull-style clutch that you're moving to? If so, you can get this to work on a 205 quite successfully, but I can't remember for definite if it's a 205 BE3 cable that you use but I think it is.

you can use a BE3 306 cable on a 205, its only 20mm or so difference in total length :)

Thanks for the help :)

The box I have is a 306 DT N reg one.

Just ordered an un-sprung paddle clutch which will be fun on a daily . It's the only one that will handle the power unfortunalty. Yes I know it's not alot of power but it's the delivery and torque which just kills normal OE clutches.
