Le Mans 24H!

Recommended Posts

What did people think of the the Le Mans 24h this year?

I went for the second year running went much earlier this year so caught all of the qualifying/ support races etc which was cool!

Audi were awesome as usual but I was really impressed with Toyota they had a quick car just hit some back luck. LMP2 and GT classes were really close and there was some good fighting going on!

So anyone off here go/ watch it?

i was on the ferry from dover-calais at the same time as a few of the cars, saw a tasty 205 gti, think it was a 1.9 in black. didnt actually see any of it tho as I was at a music festival

I watched quite a bit of it on EurosportHD, they had the full race live. It was good to see Toyota push the Audis in the early stages. Impressive given how long they've been running that car.

I was there back in 2002, it was an amazing experience, the whole thing. The journey down in an Evo6 (the police weren't too bad back then), with all the perfomance cars on the roads from all over Europe. It was scorching hot, good racing, so many memorys.

I really need to go again.. I went a few years back but just haven't made the time to go since. It's such an awesome experience to stay up for the whole 24hrs.. can be hard work though, especially given the amount of drinking that normally accompanies it!

I only watched a small amount of the race, mostly the 24mins coverage on Eurosport to try and keep up to date. I was gutted to see the Deltawing get knocked out!

I was over in mine (had 24 Heures Du Mans stickers on the doors), saw a couple of 205s on the way back to Dunkerque, gave a thumbs up for which I was branded a sad b@stard

Anyone on here?

First time there for me, definitely be going back!

dcc and I were there.

Was a good weekend apart from the French trucker deciding to re-shape my front passenger corner with his truck. :(

Followed a couple of guys in a black 205 through one of the toll booths.

I think Toyota are going to be properly on it next year.

Haven't been for a few years although listened & watched a lot online/RadioLM.

I'm not sure i'd like it these days, it's massively expensive and you still don't feel very involved, can't get very close to anything, smell, feel etc etc. Admittedly i haven't been since about '04 but even then they'd added the huge fences everywhere and it'd gone marketing mad, not that into the Prototype stuff tbh.

N24 however, was simply awesome! Such an eclectic mix of cars, exactly how it should be! The venue probably adding to a lot of the feeling of course. Much more fun to watch and you can actually get close to the action. Must have done about 30miles of walking around the circuit that weekend!

Funny you should mention the N24 as we may be doing that next year instead of Lemans.

How do you find the race coverage at the circuit? Is there anything Like radioLM along with big screens?

RadioLM cover it in English as they have for a few years now!! :D Here you go, including the podcasts; http://radiolemans.0157.org/content/n%C3%BCrburgring-24-hours

Coverage isn't amazing admittedly, but the action and atmosphere more than make up for it, the fact that you can get so close and not be surrounded by loads of people all the time is great.

A few big screens around but not many, you have to rely on your net/phone coverage etc. I was checking online to keep up & had a few friends in the UK relaying me info which was damn handy. Hadf lots of stuff coming through Facebook - if you 'like' all the right pages, it's literally bang on as and when too, i was standing where Klaus Ludwig smashed the Macca into the Seat Leon, it was online in less than a minute! The fanatical Germans also obviously have ways of staying bang up to date though and they're friendly as ever and will talk to you about it!

Yep I was there again this year, 10 year in a row. Took my son for his first as he had finished Uni early.

Was a great race, the Audi's are just so strong but I thought Toyota done really well and I look forward to them giving Audi hell next year. The GT's were also brilliant, those Vette;s just keep thundering round.

I went down in my Saab Estate this year with all the camping gear on the Thursday so my mates could have empty cars, made it much more fun as they have a 911 Carrera 2 and a Jag XKR. Got to drive the 911 on the way down ;)

Already got my order in for 6 tickets next year, going back to camp in Maison Blanc next year and hopefully have the 205 back on the road for the trip, someone else can do the support vehicle LOL

It will be my first time and didn't want to go to the ring again so decided the classic will be my euro trip this year.

I went with a couple of mates.

The first visit to Le Mans for all of us.

My first attempt at camping.

A 9 hour drive each way.

Got soaked on the Friday.

Freezing cold on the Saturday night.

And I loved literally every minute.

Undoubtedly, THE best motoring event I've ever attended.

So excited about next year already... And thinking about taking the 205 too.

well i'm back from the classic and it was a very good weekend. i think i was the only uk 205 there, saw 2 french gti's and a mint euro rallye in the car park outside.

the 205 made the trip with no problems as usual, it must of looked funny convoying with 2 american el camino pickups and an f150 lightening. i will be going again next time.
