Adjustable Wishbones

Need some help as I might just be very stupid.

I had a failure of my 6 year old compbrake wishbones (picture attached) on my race car. After visiting the compbrake website, there was mention of new improved version so I re-ordered thinking I then I would have spare rose joints if needed.

Tonight I try and fit them and they seem to be 5mm off center to the subframe. Center to center the subframe is 220mm, the arms are 215mm. The old compbrake ones are also 220mm. I am assuming they are incorrect in manufacture. Or am I missing something here.

I could grind down the sleeves but then this will leave the retaining bolt with no sleeve and the sleave will move around.

I am so confused.

Being in Australia its a little dificult to send back. Especially that I should be racing next weeked, that will not happen now.

What other alternatives do I have for wishbones, are the Shenpar heavy duty ones any good?

Regards,

Parry

:o Was there an impact to cause that damage?

Not reqally an impact, I was under full braking coming down from 180km/h dropped the wheel off the edge of the track and it failed. I have had these for 6 years now and I hit ripple strips very hard to help turn in. I run slicks as well. So it could have been metal fatigue as well.

It's not likely to be fatigue with steel, that's just overloading of a frankly s*ite design. I've hated those Compbreak wishbones ever since I saw them, and this is why!

I got a reply and they say they dont know why they dont fit as the sell them all the time! This is after I gave them the measurements, the only others I can find out there are the heavy duty Group A ones from Shenpar, anything else out there that you guys n\know of.

Constella have a set of fully adjustable wishbones, but I haven't tried them,

I have also had a failure of a Compbrake wish bone, so wouldnt use them again. The Shenpar or AB Motorsport ones are copies of the Peugeot group A design and so do the job very well. Alternatively there are fabricated arms available from France, but I cant comment on how well made or robust the design is. http://www.tricompetition.com/fr/pieces-peugeot-sport/pieces-peugeot-sport-1.html

I'd tell them to stick that response up thier arse quite frankly! unless your subframe is somehow different to all the others that were made!

If something isnt fit for purpose then you are due a refund by uk law, even if you are (albeit quite a long way) across the puddle.

I'd ask for a refund personally especially for the price they charge. You may have to take the price of shipping on the chin but at least you'll get something back to put towards something that works

They do fit as long as you do not use a ARB, You will find allot of Rally car's do not and I guess why, Mind I cannot see them selling that many as all rally people I know use the AB ones

Is that safe??? Surely, especially on a rally motor, you're going to need the arb??

Edit::

Following the reply bellow I have started this thread so as not to hijack the thread, sorry

Why would you? The ARB reduces front traction, especially on rough surfaces, hell, I don't run one on my 306 even on tarmac.

Guys, I dont run an ARB, really helps turn in, but I have found I do need to run 375lb springs to now reduce roll. I will be trying even stiffer springs in the future as going from 250 to 375 gave me a second a lap improvement, so I am going the right way. Cureently on Slicks and Gaz front shocks with 375lb springs I am generating 1.4g in the corners, that is just awsome.

To Compbrakes credit they are talking to me and we are sorting out the issue. I just need to prove to them that they have manufactured one of the arms 5mm short.

Never buy COMPBRAKE wishbones.....Buy cheap, buy twice, or even DIE. I finally got the race car out and by the 3rd race they colapsed again!

The bending stiffness of that plate design is just silly, it's just a very cheap and easy design, and nothing else.
