406 Cruise Control Not Working

Recommended Posts

Rob Turbo

A couple of weeks ago I bought an '03 406 hdi, I bought a cruise control stalk, fitted it and changed the settings in the BSI and ECU (siemens sid 801) with pp2000 to say it had cruise control, tested the cruise stalk in pp2000, all buttons register.

Took it for a drive, got it into 5th at about 60 mph, turned on cruise control, pressed the button (tried both + and -), took my foot off the accelerator and nothing! No cruise control still, I checked the switch on the clutch pedal with a multi meter and it appears to be working.

Any suggestions?

I'm going to try it on my dad's 307 at the weekend to see if it will work on that.

Apparently on older (non com2000) 406's you need a switch on the clutch pedal and an extra switch on the brake pedal, I've read that the later ones don't need the extra brake pedal switch, but the one on the clutch is there already.

I've already fished around under the dash for the second brake switch connector and shorted the pins and it still didn't work, I know it could be dangerous to keep it like that (cruise wouldn't turn off if I pressed the brake), but if it worked I was going to buy the extra switch, seeing as it didn't work I won't bother!

Well I got it working, not sure exactly what I did that made it work though! I took the clutch switch off the 306 and cut the side out of the socket so the wrong plug would fit it and fitted it in the second brake switch hole, still wouldn't work, messed around with the switches, still nothing, checked for fault codes, none showed that would effect the cruise control. While driving later I tried it again and it worked, has done ever since!
