My 309 Stolen In Swansea. :(

Recommended Posts

folks, if you could keep a look out for a 3 door black 309 GTi (H532 FLD) on any for sale sites or driving around, it's mine and it's been stolen. It's got a VTS engine & box inside as well, and 8-ball gearstick and still has an old set of discontinued Toyo T1-S tyres on all 4 corners.

When, I'm not sure. It's SORN'd and has been off the road a few minutes from the house where I've been to check on it & turn it over every so often, so probably some time within the last fortnight (long gone by now I'd imagine if that's the case). The immobiliser was the one I posted about here so would have taken a few hours with a multimeter to bypass. No sign of any break in and it didn't have a battery fitted either. That said the place it was parked would have been pretty difficult to get it towed from, so I've no idea what's happened to it.

bummer, so either someone has spotted its not been moved and taken a battery, or its been towed :(

Police informed?

Without doubt inform them, as it might be used in a raid or something or check the local scrap yards but most now have to keep records.

Sorry to hear that. Can't imagine how it feels to realise somethings been pinched and you can't pinpoint when it would have been.

Scrappy wise, if your area is anything like Avon and Somerset, all dealings with scrap have to be dealt with photo ID of the 'customer'. Would explain why a couple of dozen cars were targeted for Cat thefts in the past couple of weeks as this new operation starts on the 25th of this month down here.

Check with the police as it's possible that they took it away if it had been reported as abandoned.

Assuming that's not the case, I wouldn't ring the scrap yards, but rather go to the local one(s) and have a look around.

This is how me and Alan_M found his then other half's 205 after it was "stolen" from the parking area outside his house one day, sat there in the yard having evidentially been removed by a hiab onto the back of a flat bed. Again, like your car it had been sat for a while, and best we could guess was that one of the neighbours had phoned the scrap yard to have it taken away as they were fed up with the "abandoned" car taking up a parking space, and the scrappy obliged no questions asked as people in that line of work tend to...

Certainly the lack of a battery, coupled with an immobiliser, should have been sufficient for a typical joyrider to have been foiled if they'd broken in and tried, so my guess would be that it was either stolen to order (so to speak) or that it was taken for scrap. S**t thing to happen though :(

Yeah it was a little late in the day for me to check with any scrappies but I'll try and get round a few tomorrow. I can't imagine it being stolen to order, it's not worth a huge amount in cash, just the sentimental value to me. I spoke to the police via 101 as soon as I found out, they've no record of it being towed by any official means and have it on their ANPR system should it be being driven around still.

Thanks for the advice folks.

It wouldn't be the first car of quite modest value to be stolen for parts sadly, although I agree a 309 wouldn't be top of the list for that sort of thing.

Will keep my eyes open too, more for the parts than the car I suspect - don't see many 309's though, so I always remember one when I see it!

Cheers folks, really appreciate the concern and help keeping an eye out for it. Went round a whole load of breakers and scrap metal places today to no avail. :( Not giving up yet by any means...

Just another pointer should anyone spot a black 3 door 309 gti knocking about, there's some bad lacquer peel on the sunroof only. Just in case the plates have been changed, which is likely I'd imagine.

Phoned around the DVLA and their local clamping/towing agency as well as the local council as well just to make sure it's not been reported as abandoned and picked up by some authority... It hasn't. Probably already been ragged to death in a field or stripped for parts by now though. Wouldn't be so bad if it were insured!! This whole tax & insurance combined bollocks has had my pants down now.

You can insure it without it being taxed. You cannot have it taxed without it being insured.

I hope you manage to track it down, I would hate it if my car went missing.
