Corner Weight Of My 205 Mi16

Recommended Posts

engine killer

Just have my car corner weighted during the weekend, I guess it might be useful for someone who is / will be working on their car's weight distribution.

full tank without passenger

FL 294.5kg---30.25% FR 31.54%---307kg front 61.79%

RL 194.5kg---19.98% RR 18.23%---177.5kg rear 38.21%

total 973.50kg

full tank with me in it

FL 304.5kg---28.86% FR 32.13%---339kg front 61.00%

RL 203kg---19.24% RR 19.76---208.5kg rear 39.00%

total 1,055.00kg

full tank with me and a passenger in it

FL 327kg---29.30% FR 31.18%---348kg front 60.48%

RL 227kg---20.34% RR 19.18%---214kg rear 39.52%

total1,116.00kg

Mine is a Mi16 with the battery re-located at the rear left in the boot. Air-conditioning and PAS equipped.

Do I assume looking at the figures that your car is RHD?

Surprised that it weighs quite that much even with the AC too, as most other figures for standardish cars that I've seen have typically been around the 880-900kg mark. Have you got heavier wheels, big brakes or anything like that which might contribute to the slightly high looking weight?

Yes it is a RHD and i was a bit shock with the figures. Well a/c with its compressor, radiator and extra fan (twin fans setup) are heavy. Electric windows, PAS......

wheels are Team Dynamics Pro-Race 15", brakes are AP Racing up front and stock rear. both team dynamics and ap shouldn't be any heavier than standard i guess.

no more sub and amps at all, just 2 sets of speakers and a head unit and cd-changer. no optional sound deadening.....

a pair of bucket recaro spg but with the floor lowered so it might be similar to the original weight.

973kg with a full tank does not sound a million miles away seeing as its a 16v with ac etc, though the wheels and brakes wouldnt be any heavier than standard.

Heaviest weight listed in a 205 handbook is 935 kg, the spec of which isnt shown but probably would be an auto with pas a/c electrics etc.

For reference my 1.6 road car with full 1.9 interior & stereo, a 1.9 8v, 309 front running gear, drum rear beam, sparco driver's seat etc was 829kg, which i was quite impressed with!

for a road car in southeast asia, i can't ditch the air con, and i am spoiled by the retrofitted pas..... seems a bit hard to put the car on diet but me.

How much was removed when you weighed that, as that's certainly quite a bit lighter than standard.

I'm guessing no spare wheel/cage, no boot/carpet underlay, no rear washer bottle and no jack?

(and special lightweight rear quarter panel :P )

Very light for what is still a road going car and civil enough to drive to Germany etc though!

The left/right ratios are pretty good though, think i need to move my battery!

forgot to tell, the spare wheel has gone already (as it is not a must to have in here by law).

Good points, but not quite, which is even more surprising! That's not with me in it, obviously! (Unlike engine killer's weight, so is a little different!)

But, there wasn't masses removed, spare wheel cage, boot mat, parcel shelf(with 6x9's!), carpet mats etc, were all still present. There's also 10 speakers in there, but 4 are component sets consisting of lightweight magnesium speakers, tweeters and crossovers.

But, no underlay in the cabin or boot, rear washer bottle or jack/wheel brace & the rear wiper is removed. Underlay/sound deadening remains on the bulkhead and carpet is still there.

It's a Ph2 non-sunroof 1.6 original shell but with 1.9 8v engine, Kaaz diff(heavy!) in BE3 box, 309 front running gear, Koni/Eibachs, drum braked rear beam with big ARB, had keep-fit windows at the time and 7x15" Compomotive CXR's with near-new T1R's, Sparco Rev driver's seat, OMP steering wheel with removable adaptor, full ph2 1.9 seats & interior bar handbrake surround missing.

Yes and a 'special' lightweight small patch of rear quarter!

Not bad at all and as you say, a little noisy as expected but still civilized enough to have a conversation at 80 leptons and comfy enough for a Euro-trip. Handles superbly and i bloody love it to bits as the drive home from Ace last night proved again!.

wow, is the Kaaz heavier than the original diff? i thought they are about the same

how about the Quaife ATB when comparing to the stock diff?

Interestingly yes! I'm sure it is anyway as everytime i swap boxes (a fair few times now!) i notice how much heavier the one with the Kaaz is to a standard box. Quaife's i don't think are noticeably heavier, TranX might be but been a while since i've lifted mine!

Iirc the Quaife weight may be in the definitive weights thread - just not sure if anyone's weighed a std diff.

thanks for your info.

anyway i will be be attending any trackday in the near future, finding parts to lose weight will be difficult, so maybe losing some weight from my tummy will be a better idea :D since i ditched amplifiers and sub some years ago.
