The earth points for the front lights are between the headlight and the radiator on each side - follow the green/yellow wires.

I have a few little issues with this "new" Pug' Silly stuff really. Apart from the lights, it ticks over at around 1500 rpm but fluctuates terrible. Not a smooth idle at all. Any ideas?

No need to go ripping the alternator out for no reason. Check the voltage when running it should be between 13.5v and 14v. If it isn't try revving the engine and if it suddenly jumps up from ~11.5v to ~14v then its pooped or even just staying at ~11.5v. If that all checks out ok try putting a jump lead from the head of the engine or somewhere easily accessible (and bare metal) to earth on the chassis/Neg battery terminal. This will prove the earth strap.

Also check the continuity of the exciter wire on the back of the altternator to the lamp in the clocks. If this is breaking down the alternator wont charge until it self excites.
