Another Question, Rear Brakes ....

Recommended Posts

whizzer71

Again many moons ago when I was on here I read a thread in the Projects / Modification section where a guy was building an awesome track car, He some how used 1.6 Gti front brake set up on std rear arms (205), I appreciate they dont have handbrake on them but this isnt goint to be a problem as will be using hydraulic handbrake, Ive trawled through what seems like an eternity of posts / threads but to my annoyance cannot find it

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Think from memory (Although I may be wrong) that the car in question was white or a light pastle blue, like that narrows it down

Thanks in advance

Tris

Mine uses 1.9 GTI front discs, this means no brackets are needed for the caliper, it will bolt on in the standard place. The disc needs packing off to line up, and the caliper bracket needed a mm or so grinding off to get everything to clear. You then use front Bendix pads, but to make the handbrake work properly I drilled and tapped and then fitted a small cut down cap screw to work as the lug which fits into the piston cutout.

The 1600 front calipers will not fit on the car as they are much deeper so would foul on the inner wheelarch.

Ok, you spaced out the discs a bit then? (I guess that's what you mean by "packing off"?)
