Welcome along, good to see another local member. Car looks very clean nice colour too.

Its not necessary to swap the subframe and wishbones etc for a tu5j4 engine, the subframe swap is a worthwhile upgrade but can be done anytime. I use to have a tu5j4 converted 205 and I've still got some of the conversion parts.

Hi james,

I think if i was going to do it i would have to do it with the wishbones and subframes etc. as you said its a worthwhile upgrade. What sort of bits would i need to do this upgrade, does it all sit nicely once its dropped in? i understand the mounts will have to be adapted.

Thanks

if you want a GTi subframe with TU linkages on it I have one I don't need any more...

Nice to see the TU5j4 idea is snowballing, you know you want it! I would recommend fitting the gti subframe and all if you can, afterall the tu24 french rallye that you mentioned had all the GTi bits.

I would definantly go all out on a tu5 engine but as i said earlier i dont have a lockup anymore and my garage has my old mans rotting out ford in there at the moment lol if i had the space and time i would definantly consider either a tu5 or an mi16 conversion. For now a tu3 swap wont effect my insurance and give me a litle bit more power. Been talking to a bloke on here who has ported, skimmed and fitted a kent cam/verniey pulley on a solex twin carburettor which goes pretty well so i may invest in that conversion. Shame the tu24 isnt avalible on rhd cars :/

I forgot about the TU2J2 - thats 100hp! It can be found in the ph1 106 rallye 1.3. Not a bad engine either. It has injection rather than the lovely twin webbers though.

ohh right thats not a bad option although means i will have to get a cat with it meaning also ecu so ill have to worry about emmisions aswell. Ill have a think about it, are they easy to get hold of or harder than the tu3?

You dont have to put a cat on it, emissions regs go on whatever is older; the car or the engine. So even if you get an engine from a 95 car, it will have to pass an emissions test for the age of the shell. I know this because i used to have a 97 306 with an 88 mi16 engine ( the reverse of your scenario) and because the engine was older it had to pass 88 emissions standards. See this link where it refers to "vehicles with a different engine"

ohh i never knew that!

so realistically all id need is the engine, box, ecu and loom.

May still be a headache though with the loom but unfortunantly i cant have an excuse being an auto electrician by trade lol

i will have a research on this engine sounds interesting, thanks! (:
