Low Revs Misfire On Turbo Engine

Recommended Posts

dave205

As above really, i seem to have a misfire at low revs on my turbo engine, strangely though it clears after 2-2.5k revs and pulls fine. Other than replacing the obvious plugs and leads as a start, what else should i look for?!

Any suggestions on whats plugs and leads to go for?

Standard plugs and leads work just fine, you'll find most on here use NGK's, as that's what most motorfactors stock, they are cheap and reliable.

as for the cause of the misfire, whip the plugs out and check the condition.

I'll get on to my local motor factors for some plugs and leads then. What sort of think should i be looking for on the plugs? Burnt, correded, fuel soaked all those sort of things?

Also, could this be anything different as it pulls fine at higher revs, it just judders and is hessitant at low revs.

Took the plugs out tonight, its running very rich, so my next questions are, what controls air fuel mixture on these turbo engines and has anybody had any ideas what could be wrong?

Really want to get this sorted so i can bring it to pugfest :/

Cheers

Is yours VSS wired up correctly? I used to suffer from this when it wasnt connected, if you need the diagrams from autodata for testing let me know.

I think it is, can you email me the diagrams if i pm you my email address? I can then check it and hopefully cross that of the list of maybe's.

I'll see if my boss will let me use the diagnostics some time this week and pop over if you like? You can test crank sensor with a multi meter mate and usually you can clean them up but they're not too expensive either way.

lambda sensor, ecu coolant temperature sensor, throttle position sensor, inlet air temperature sensor.

Ive checked some of these earlier by testing the pins on the plugs to see if they go down to earth or are live, what do i need to look for?
