Car Sprints

Recommended Posts

tdr_1976

I went over to my local Circuit today (Anglesey Circuit) to watch the car sprints organised by Chester Motor Club.

I'd never watched sprints before, but it looks like a Lot of fun, and something I'd enjoy, that would be cheaper than stage rallying!

Seeing the sprint event today, has got me thinking about taking part, as there's two more sprint events at the circuit this year.

Has anyone on here had experience of sprinting, and could point me in the direction of a good place for information on what I need to do to the car to get it 'sprint ready'.

Cheers :)

I was indeed! But it was Pi**ing it down with rain the whole time I was there, so I wasn't out of the car for very long at all.......

I was just thinking out aloud if there was a forum somewhere I could join, to get acquainted with people who know the inns & outs of the Motor sport.

I find pit lanes difficult places to have a decent chat with people, as they are, rightly, pre occupied with their racing!

Not local to you, but the following forum runs a dozen or so sprints a year. There are some guidelines etc on there also.

Being a rally driver at single venues, we hang about in heavy rain, snow and ice and then get in the car to do a stage. Also if we have no service crew we have to crawl about under the car. On the winter events we get there when its still dark.

Then you have the nerve to come on here to ask questions which you can not be assed to find out for your self! As Welshpug said you were in the right place at the right time and if you were that keen a bit of rain would not have stopped you !

Theres plenty of info around get off your ass and look !

Being a Flight Line Supervisor, I'm out in all weathers. I'm not afraid of getting wet, cold or covered in s*it!

I was in the right place at the right time, but just maybe I didn't want to get soaked through to the skin for the sixth day this week?

Read my question again.

I asked for any information that I could find on the internet so I could read.

If you can't answer in a civilized manner, then don't f***ing bother

Miserable Twat.

Double Quote, I'm privileged.

There was absolutely no need to reply the way you did.

You are right though, I will go far.

It depends on what class your looking at, the club website should have some info on this, but say road going means just that, a road car with bar MSA Race suit, Gloves, Hat, Battery Earth Marked and a ignition on/off direction thats it

Modified needs a cage and safety equipment and then off you go

Cheers for the information Miles,

I was looking at the road going car class, as I use my pug as a daily driver, my pug has a roll cage, side mounted seats and six point harnesses, so I guess it would be classed as a modified?

depends very much on the regs that the promoting club use, so find which club it was first :)

I was on Anglesey last weekend as it happens!

I've found the Chester Motor Club website, and downloaded the MSA blue book pdf, so that'll keep me busy with the reading this evening!

I'll get in touch with the club this week regarding membership and regs.

one thing to be careful of, is that while some things are optional....any mods you do have, must be done according to the blue book and event regs. So while you can have an optional cage in the road going class...it must be to MSA spec etc.

I have done quite a few sprints and hillclimbs in bog std road cars and rally cars and they are great fun and normally a pretty cheap day out. Get yourself a licence and you can probably borrow the safety kit for an event ot two to see if you like it,

Yes, it's a quagmire of contradictions, I'll have to wade through them and make sense of which way to go...

Yes, there's always something to make it less straight forward! I've got a correctly fitted OMP 10 point cage, with the side mounted seats fitted onto box section tubing welded to the sills and to the tunnel.

So should be OK, I hope........

Cheers for your replies Gents!

I've been doing hillclimbs and sprints since 1992, mainly beacuse I was too poor to go rallying and couldn't bear to destroy a car, which is something you have to accept in rallying if you're going to be competitive.

Your car sounds perfectly acceptable for road going up to 1400cc in the Longton and District Motor club championship. Have a look on their websites and Chester MC or Liverpool MC's websites.

The main problems with road going sprinting regulations/categories relate to tyres (List 1a or 1b), suspension (rose jointed top mounts) and using an engine which was originally fitted to your car i.e. you can't stick a 106 rallye 1.3 engine in a 205.

Most speed competitors are very friendly and will help you out. I've been to the Anglessey sprint in June and it was raining so badly the paddock flooded and I doubt many people would want to stand around discussing the rules and regs. PM me if you need any info and I'll try and help.
