Alternator Problem (See Pics)

Recommended Posts

bondyshambles

Hi there

I am about to change my alterrnator as i am having a problem with my lights constantly flickering. I have got the alternator off e-bay and it is slightly different to my Valeo one. I have a spade connector and an eyed ring from my car side. My alternator (Valeo) has only one spade connector and a B- and a B+ terminal but the other alternator has 2 spades saying D+ and one terminal saying B+. Just wandering where do i put the spade and ringed wires from my side of the car onto the new one or is it the wrong alternator, again, (already got sent one from some Citroen before). Also if i connect it wrong what damage am i gonna cause ?

My Valeo alternator.

My advice would be, do not waste your time with second hand alternators, it is almost always a false economy.

If I were you I would take your alternator that has come off your car to Studley Auto Electrics which is on The Slough and get the guy there to rebuild your unit. My dad lives near there hence why I know the area.

I was gonna phone him, as he is indeed a famous man in these parts of the world and amazingly on my doorstep (unlike any other 205 gti owners). Do you have any idea though how this alternator is fitted to my car? and while we are on the subject of my area, do you know anyone who is good on my car as it needs work doing and i am an amatuer.

Sounds OK to me.

For work doing you could try speaking to Ed at EJM Preparation on the industrial estate in Alcester and see if he has time to look at it, more usually they do race and rally car prep work though.
