Cat C Damage Car Value

Recommended Posts

Hi,

normally hate these kind of topics but i need a bit of advice ;)

How much would you say a 1993 'L' plate miami 1.9 with extensive Cat C damage is worth?

No idea what the damage was but was done back in 2006

Cheers

I'm guessing it was repaired to a satisfactory standard? if so I don't think it would affect its value greatly.

It depends on how long the piece of string that comes with it :D Without knowing what condition it is in at best £250 for scrap/parts.

Sorry I feel like a right plank now, as just read Welshpugs reply and then realised it had been repaired doh! So anything between £1200 to £1700 if standard and in ok condition.

without seeing what damage was done and what needed replacing or even if the shell need jigging because of twisting on impact its very difficult to assess what value has been lost to a car.

obviously it would have needed to be repaired and then taken to have a vic check and mot to be legally put back on to the road so hopefully will be completely safe and legal but will alway have the status of a repaired write off and that will always lower the value of a car no matter how well repaired it may be.

having said that there are many cars on this forum that will have no doubt been written off had an insurance company had their way and some of those are the best condition 205 gti's i have ever seen!

as always having an accurate and full as possible history of a car ( especially older cars! ) will often negate what non enthusiasts would see as a negative such as a cat d or cat c status.

your car is a late 205 so will be a phase 2 and the genuine parts availability 6 years ago was far better than now but without seeing pics of the car or even better viewing it in the metal its very hard to say how well any repairs have been done and what parts have been replaced ie genuine or pattern parts so i would say get some pics up on here and see if you can give more details of any damage repaired?

having used to be an insurance assessor i would have valued any car using glass' guide and as a rule de-valued the vehicle by 25% assuming it had been repaired to a good standard.

glass' value for any 205 now would be a million miles away from a true value. i would look for a value in todays current market and again assuming its been repaired correctly and to a good standard reduce that by a figure in the region of 15% as the older the car the less of a concern it becomes for most buyers.
