Any Tips On Wheel Bearing

Recommended Posts

ozy

Hi, I think the drivers side front wheel bearing is on its way out, I do have a 205 workshop manual 1983 to 1991, my car is a 1994. Is the proceedure the same as my manual?

I would also appreciate tips or advice you can give me.

The car is a 1994 1.4 sceptre.

Than you.

ozy.

I was marshalling on the tour of britannia today, the cars were fantastic, a great day out.

The job is fairly simple in terms of removing the hub from the car. Once this is done you can remove the old bearing easily enough so long as you can get the circlip out, these can sometimes be tough and you will definitely need some large and strong circlip pliers. To re install the new bearing really is a job for a press.

Just looked up this topic and some information seems to be missing, like how to remove a 26 year old circlip with rotted off ends, and that you can press the new (frozen) bearing can be pressed in using the old bearing outer in a vice with a bit of effort and a bit of tube on the handle. but the tip that Tom gave in putting down a big fat MIG weld on the inside of the outer race and letting it cool down is a classic.
