Hand Brake Cables - Same On 1.9 & 1.6?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I'm in the midst of swapping the rear beam on my 1.6 GTi for a 309 rear beam with disc brakes, can the hand brake cables from the 1.6 GTi (rear drums) fit the 309 rear beam?

I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle of stripping the cables out of the drums to see if they fit... got enough to do without spending time taking cables off only to find they're no good...

If I do have to change the cables, I guess the 205 1.9 GTi cables will fit, no problems with length or anything?

Probably a silly question...

Ta much!

Gary

205 1.6 and 1.9 handbrake cables are different.

You will need 205 1.9 cables to use that beam.

The handbrake cables are also a different length for each side, r/h is longer iirc.

So do motaquip but I've also had a 306 clutch cable from QH that was a dura cable but haven't bought QH cables for the 205.

Ordered from GSF yesterday, £8.50 each, collect today... wonder if they'll give me my BMWCC 10% discount on Pug parts?

Excellent, I had better ask for one when I'm in!

To be fair the guys at GSF Glasgow are normally pretty good (unlike some of the tossers at Euro... but that's for another post and another day!)
