Securing Slim Lines To Radiators

Recommended Posts

allye

I've ditched the standard fan cowling in favour of 2 slim lines as the radiator is lowered, however I really do not like the fan fixing kits. They are cheap and brittle and bend the fins when you put them through.

Has any one got any alternate way to fix slim line fans to a standard radiator?

Cheers, Ali

A decent quality fan fixing kit should be fine. Most of it comes down to taking a bit of thought over exactly where to fix it and being careful when doing it. Once firtted it should be robust and not cause any issue.

Remember - a fans efficienty is seriously reduced if not mounted close (against) the rad, or sealed against it as air is lazy and tends to take the path of least resistance.

As above, the fixing kits are great in my experience..! I uses a Pacet one, which is 4 long zip-tie type things with foam rubber pads to protect the core. No bent fins or anything. :D

I might give the cable ties and washers a go. In the past I have used these type of kits;

The ties are bit large and you really have to force them through which bends the fins a little, really brittle too.

I'd say that in principle that kit looks fine, although at £1.99 a little too cheap to make sure you were getting a sensible quality.

Bending the fins a little is no real issue - after all these are the fins that will be blocked out from cooling by the end washers anyway aren't they??

What you don't want to be doing is damaging the core of teh radiaotr. So if a kit does mean that, then it's a naff kit.
