Chris Harris - Car Journo

Recommended Posts

happygoron

Used to write for evo and a few others, cracking writer. Now writes for pistonheads and does videos for a youtube channel called Drive. Watched a few of his videos and they are pretty good but todays one on the M5 is cracking. Really comes across as a genuine car person, and the eay he describes the car is the way I expect many on here feel for their gtis. Well worth a watch:

Oh, and he owns a 205 xs!

Classic engine. Old man had 3 635 CSIs before his E30 M3s, however he still romances M635CSIs that appear for sale as that is what he would really like.

I do like Chris Harris's videos.

You never know, he might do one on the 205 XS that he owns and is AFAIK extremely fond of :)

Monkey's been everywhere!

Drivers Republic was very good too, worth watching some old vids! He is indeed very fond of his XS, more so than a number of his other cars and also has an AX GT, is a decent chap too! :)

I think he's really come into his own with the videos. His writing was always really good but the recognition he has these days is another level. He loves the XS, he's had it for years, while a lot of special things have come and gone in the meantime - Gallardo, 993 GT2 and plenty more. He's handy behind the wheel too, more than just skidding for the camera.

Does he not write for autocar anymore? I have always enjoyed his videos/articles on there. Never knew he had an XS though; guess that explains why you can't get through an issue of autocar without 205's being mentioned or compared to something!

Love those E28s, old-school BMWs just have something about them, don't they!

Harris' video on the Atom V8 vs Noble M600 at the Nurburgring is well worth a watch.

How bazaar, pretty much word for word on how I feel about my old Mercedes Cosworth. Even down to the electric headrests.

What makes it odder is its filmed at my old stomping ground (B390), a few miles from my family home. Always a joy to drive that road, plus it never gets busy. My last drive in the Merc was up that way, good times.

Great vid!

He says he likes it cos it's not a minter etc and has a wheel center missing - if my eyes don't deceive me he lost it at 4.45 on the video - lol

I like Chris Harris too, I used to enjoy his articles in autocar; infact it was his article on the 205xs that got me interested in the 205 in the first place. Thinking about it i can blame all of my lifes misery on him!

I think Harris is a fantastic presenter. So natural, so sincere, and full of enthusiasm and natural passion for the subject. Compare him to the kind of bafoons presenting for 5th Gear and it becomes even more laughable how some people manage to get mainstream TV work <_<

He's just stirred up a 205 hornets' nest on Pistonheads: http://www.pistonhea...sp?c=52&i=25744

He reckons the 1.9 is better than the 1.6 - he's right too!

Just read the first couple of pages of replies to that article. Of course it's all a matter or personal taste, but I'm actually really surprised by just how many people are blatantly wrong by such a clear margin

To be fair Chris Harris could say the pope isn't a catholic and bears refuse to s*it in the woods and half the pistonheads forum would agree with him, the forum can be vomit inducingly sycophantic sometimes. However to be fair, he's right

I do like his presenting, i subscribe to the youtube channel that his video's appear on. It's called "Drive" - worth hitting the subscribe button. I think every Wednesday they release a video. They also have a few American guys on the Drive channel but I don't watch those guys, they annoy me simply because they're American.

Another good youtube channel is EvoTv - I think his name is Harry Metcalf or something like that, guy who runs Evo, they have some interesting ones, and a few old videos from when Harris worked with Evo.

If you are going to make bold claims about subjective things it would be wise to get the factual details right...

From where I was sitting, both had an unhealthy appetite to wag their rear axles on a trailing throttle, the 1.9's was only a little worse because it was stiffer and the 195/55 tyres were deflected a little more easily.

1.9s are not stiffer than 1.6s and 195/55 tyres don't fit either.

he's right though. I came from a 1.6 to a 1.9 and never wanted to downgrade. I do prefer lighter wheels though as the 15" were too heavy...

I think what other people are putting is far worse. 309's had different engines, superchips were good etc etc.

Is that from the comments on pistonheads? I didn't waste time reading them based on what I've seen in the past
