Modify... Or Another Car...

Recommended Posts

BlueBolt

So, I've just had a nice little pay out from RBSG for a ppi claim :)

My options are as follows::

1) buy myself a 1.4 something... Cheap to run, insure, tax and so on. 1.4 not being so slow it's boring but not so fast I want to rag the hell out of it. It's main use would be for getting to and from work, and weekday use.

2) modify my car a bit more!! Spend the 7/800 on some bits and pieces for the car and drive the gti6 conversion every day...

My travel to and from work is about to shorten from 40 odd miles a day to about 15, so the fuel isnt a problem, but I'm really torn on what to do...

I want an XS or GT or similar 205 or a 106 similar, but don't want to spend loads on the car... Don't mind doing bits to it, as I'll probably strip my gti interior into the new one...

I know this is obviously a personal choice thing, but if you were in my shoes, what would you do??

Depends how carried away you'd get with the gti6 car? I used mine to get to and from work and it was just getting silly in fuel cause I got giddy on the way home..... Get a d turbo or 205stdt or 106 diesel.... cheap to buy, easily to tune and still get good fuel.

Personally I'd go with option 2 but like I say I get carried away :P

I've been thinking that too... I don't want the big tax though which is why I want the 1400...

Since the gti6"+" (bodies and Zsara box with atb diff) I have a tendency to not be able to avoid "the loud pedal"

Part of this is enjoying the car as I've only recently got her back from Miles, but the rest is the continuous want to give it a bootful!! Lol

I'd stick the cash in an Isa and continue living my life like I was never given it tbh..

Keep it for when your actually need it rather than waste.

Ask yourself how often you can afford to go on track per year. That should determine whether you actually need to build track car. Make sure the GTI6 is a well sorted fast road car and you will be fine. It will cost you at least £500 a year to run a second car anyway with road tax, insurance and MOT.

There is no need to strip the interior. It will just annoy you and make the car impractical.

The gti6 isn't for track, like you say it's a fast road car... But the extra running costs of it will be more than £500 a year to run the way I am... I don't look forward to winter driving, or snow or things like that, so the option of having this car as a weekend toy and summer only, taking it off the road over winter etc.....

For 15 miles a day you won't save much by having a more economical car.

Take into account road tax, insurance, servicing etc. and it's more of a hassle than a gain IMHO.

Keep your current car but as others have said why do you need to modify it further?

Does it not satisfy your needs or does it need servicing/repairs?

I do like the 205 STDT idea but i'd spend the casdh on the six. or put the cash towards a few track days :)

put the cash towards a few track days :)

This is what I'm now doing!!

Just bought the tires (T1R's) and am planning an evening session at Brands with a few 205 turbo mates... Should be good!!

Been mulling it over all day and I have to agree with the comments about the savings and such. The only thing I'm going to loose is my NCB with insurance as this is insured under classic policy...

No matter though!! Am enjoying her now and will wait and plan something big for any modification coming up!!

Thanks all for your opinions :)
