Sticking Brake Pedal

Recommended Posts

Sinbad

The pedal sticks on my 1.6 gti,i have removed the master and can pump that by hand,it pumps and returns so thats ok.

With the master off the pedal is no different,i have spent the last hour spraying wd40 on all moving parts but it just will not return!

Could i be missing a spring off the pedal box? like on the clutch pedal??

Or should the spring thats on the clutch pedal be on the brake pedal??

This car in the past has been worked on by absolute reprobates so anything is possible!

anyone?

Just bled them up and when the nipple was open with the one way valve on,some of the pumps had to bring the pedal up manually.

Its bled up now and pedal gone hard as normal, just dont want it to not return for reasons which are obvious!

Just had a look on service box and the doesn't appear to be any spring involved in the pedal mechanism. Have you had the pedal off to check the , spacer / bushing / cap screw for any signs of ware or damage?

No i couldnt see one on there either.

I havent but it seems to be ok now, when it did it was when there was a big blast of air coming out the bleed nipples,so am guessing it was just full of air.

Its a pretty simple system so whats the actual problem?

Are the brakes binding or is the pedal not returning?

If the pedal isn't returning then its likely to be a master cylinder issue or mechanical binding on the servo mechanism.

The pedal isnt returning when it does it,after the recovery home, the pedal worked fine,as per the drive to mot and during mot, then after, when it was warm it stuck.

With the engine off the pedal feels fine, when running it sticks???

unbolt the master cylinder from the brake servo if the pedal is still sticking renew the servo if its fine renew the master cylinder dont even think about bolting it back on brakes are THE most important parts of any car

autofive do both 1.6 £128.05 and 1.9 £142.93

peugeot 4535F0 £163.68

you should also check the one way air valve on the front of the servo, when the pedal sticks in next yank the valve out quickly (be careful not to break it) and see if the pedal releases
