Single Wiper 'kit' Problems

Recommended Posts

Strictly_Derv

I've recently purchased a hope made single wiper kit from a seller on here and am having a few issues with it.

It's totally fine on normal speed but when on fast it just goes past it's park point and smacks my bonnet or just gets stuck down there. I've had it off countless times now trying different parts, motors, linkages ect but no luck. It's not nice having no wipers in the rain so I've reverted back to my original wipers.

There seems to be a fair amount of left to right play in park position.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

It is all about the set up on those and getting the park position right. When I made them before I just put 13mm in the standard bar that bolted to the motor and connected to the linkage. Then put the motor in the park position and fit the bar to the splines on the motor.

If the length of the arm is wrong then you can get the problems that you're describing too, especially when coupled with a bit of slop.

Basically what happens is that the wiper linkage arm gets pushed round too far and jams because there is insufficient leverage to pull it back given the angle of the rod connecting it to the arm on the motor. Normally it's worse on high speed wipe as the momentum of the wiper arm helps to pull it around too far.

I've had it off countless times

Now you're just showing off.

I love the upright park pos, don't know how practical it is but would love it to park like that with ignition off, just to look cool

My thoughts exactly Anthony, but I'm told it worked fine of the sellers car, who's a well trusted seller on here. So just waiting to hear back from him and see what he's going to do.

Thanks for the help.

Easy enough to get it to park vertically - you just need to change the angle that the arm bolts to the wiper :)

Yeah I discovered that whole fitting my old twin wipers back on and the wipers parked half way up the screen!

Mine passed MOTs like this with that being the park position, though both those pics were mid 1990's when Touring Cars were all like that. It never bothered me as I have had a split screen Land Rover in the past and it did reduced wind noise (and therefore aero drag which was an extra 10 bhp in real terms!!)

CHeers Neil. It wont be on the car as it's pretty useless as it is I'll bring it along though.

That not normal is it? Seems like the cut and welded adaptor bit is the wrong size.
