It Feels Like I've Bought Kangaroo Petrol-- 1993 Cj 1.4I

Recommended Posts

The problem started yesterday after travelling for 45 minutes on the motorway. I pulled up at the traffic lights at the bottom of the off ram, and when I tried to pull off nothing happed for the first part of travel of the accelerator peddle.. The power then came in and the car pulled away like it was on kangaroo petrol. The same thing happened as I changed up through the gearbox.

It then seemed to be ok for the short distance I had to go to get home.

I've been out in the car today and it is doing the same thing intermittantly. It happens after I've taken my foot off the accelerator. There's nothing there for the first part of travel of the accelerator oedal. If I take my foot off the pedal and try again then it's ok.

I can't tell if this is an injection problem or an ignition problem. Any ideas ?

Derek

The throttle cable is fine. It's got Bosch single point injection.

Unplug the TPS and then plug it back in with the key in position 2, see if it goes away for a while.

I put a bottle of Injection cleaner in the petrol tank today. The car is nearly back to normal now, with just the occasional hiccup. When I get a chance I'll have look at the injector to see if I can see anything wrong.

I don't think so, I did about 80 miles after filling the tank before the problem started.

I think I've solved the problem. I changed the Throttle Position Switch ( aka Idle Control Valve ) this morning and on the 10 mile test ride the problem did not reoccur.

Rippthrough , I had tried what you said about disconnecting the TPS, but that didn't change anything.
