Bonnet Release Cable Come Detached

As the title states my bonnet release cable has either come detached at one end or snapped on 1.4 GR model. I am now having a spot of bother opening the bonnet I have managed to get the front grille of but not sure where to go from here if any one has any tips or advice for me it would be much appreciated.

Go in from underneath, reach your arm up into the engine bay and pull the release latch by hand.

 

Plenty of space to do so with 8v XU and TU engines, but you're on a hiding to nothing with a 16v XU!

As said, i reached up between the rad and the engine with some pliers and pulled the latch once when mine snapped. But i have also seen it done by a friend, he made a little loop out of the broken cable, hooked it in between the grille somehow around the latch and pulled it that way. Either way, its not too hard.
