Steering Rack Buffer, Is It Needed?

Recommended Posts

On the standard steering rack, is this buffer essential?

I've got a standard rack in the shed but the buffer isn't present, I was going to put it together without it but if there's a definite reason not to I won't.

The pic above is from my quaife rack years ago, if I had the buffer in place it wouldn't reach full lock-to-lock. So I cut it off.

Probably not needed as long as your careful on full lock.

Not shure what it protects but it's there for something, could be just to stop and unplesent noise or something.

If you have the rack fitted without the boots, try it out lock to lock to see if you can tell us what it actually does.

edit, mine was white, or off white creamy coulour on my CTI, almost forgot to fit it.
