Struggling With My Central Locking

Recommended Posts

jcsh

Hi! I've just got a prob with my 88 CTi. Just a week ago the c/l has stopped working altogether. I checked the fuse in the glove box, its OK.

I took the RHS door panel off and took out the actuator, I can't figure out if its working or not though....

If I push it down it will move sort of manually and then kind of jump a little at the end of its throw - not a really positive electrical throw if you know what I mean ... Is it Knackered?

and if it is what models of car would I be able to get a replacement from?

Cheers

James

Drivers door has a grey control unit, which looks like a motor, but is no more than a switch and often gives up the ghost. Try the WD40 and wiggle it a lot and see how you get on, therwise try swapping with a known good one. Post 1990 205's came with a motor in the drivers door to work in conjunction with a remote control and the drivers module isn't a straight swap unfortunately.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm thinking about what you are saying and need more clarification please...

1) When I had the actuator/switch out I kept it connected and operated it manually through its travel.

Surely when the device reached its down position then it would switch voltage to the other door and the boot wouldn't it? I'm not sure that the device can be working correctly can it, if this is happening...?

2) What is WD40 (which I am a big fan of BTW :) ) bringing to the party I wonder?

thanks for your help

James
