What Car Is This Engine From?

Recommended Posts

pugmarshall

I found this code on my head; 9610923010, I've found out it's a 1360cc TU unit - in my 1.1 Junior...

But from exactly what car? After the above numbers it reads "21" but underlined.

It also has 3 circles in which the following are stamped; C then 5 (or C5) and 11 then 93 with no circle, which I guess refers to the year?

Also, it's on a Weber Carb and has a 55mm manifold.

Hopefully someone can shed some light!

Luke

from a quick google, would suggest that it was either from a 205 or 306

i'd guess 205 if its a carb, maybe from xt, gr, cj?

I did a quick google search, but, It's definitely not a 306 engine and the engine in question has Citroen badges on lots of random pipes.

Maybe from an AX? Or a 205, like you say, but someone has replaced the pipes previously? It's mainly coolant related pipes with Citroen badges, do any Citroens share coolant pipes with a 205? It looks very OE...

I' ve been searching the internet for ages, and I think I've found out what it's from...

It's got two pipes leaving the left of the plastic box on top of the Carb but the AX's haven't... So I thought it might be from a 205, but IIRC they only came with distributors in 1360cc, and this one is a coil pack.

Then I remembered that the early, and I mean very early, 306's had carbs and coilpacks, and this engine is stamped 1993 which would make sense. Then I remembered this engine has several Citroen badges on so I then looked onto the 306's Citroen variant, which brings me to the only logic explanation I can think of...

A 1993 1.4 Citroen ZX.

Anyone think I might be onto something there?

yes the ZX shares alot of the 205 parts.. so it makes sense that the pipes fit perfectly though it's says "Citroen" on them.

I have seen many a peugeot with citroen badges on the pipes/hoses and vice versa, it doesnt really mean anything imo, they just grab anything at the factory.

I doubt a 93 ZX would have had a carb, SPI maybe.

You're right, they do grab anything at the factory, but no Peugeot 205's and Citroens in 1993 were made in the same factory.

Welshpug, I can't find any cars with Carb and coil pack from 1993. I think it's just a load of old random s*it thrown together to get it running by one of it's many previous owners!

Yes, the cars weren't assembled in the same factory, but i imagine all the pipes came from the same manufacturer - obviously this is just a guess on my part, but i imagine PSA would consolidate everything they could to one supplier to keep costs down. I could be absolutely wrong, but i will add that i have seen numerous 80's/90's peugeots (405's/205's/306's) with citroen branded pipes.

Either way, as you say, it could just be a random engine combo thrown together by a previous owner.

As stated in the first post, a weber!

I'm just going to throw this out there, I think its been basterdised with the carb from an earlier car and the engine/ignition from a slightly later car?

It's a Weber, on a 1360 head and I've just found a plate with HDZ PTC on the block, which is a 1.1 from an AX/309...

I give up, as long as it runs I don't care!

Does this mean anything to anyone; 3431140021 (81) 15-T?

I'd imagine the block may be the original one, as the ax/309 used the same one (i think) in 1.1 format. then maybe the top end was swapped for something else for either convenience or power reasons. Assuming it runs ok, I wouldnt worry what it is exactly
