The 205 Has Still Got It

Hi all,

I travelled down to a small cottage industry estate, just outside a lovely village near Bedford yesterday. I was taking down my 1953 Matchless engine to a specialist there for a rebuild. The two guys running the place loved the car, as did the Beetle/Camper guys next door, the muscle car place opposite and anyone else there. I couldn't believe the amount of interest it developed, its great to know that our cars are appreciated by the classic car/bike world.

I left feeling very happy!

Ditto visited a vintage car restorer Friday and we ended up chatting 80's hot hatches for a fair while. Fell in love with an aero engined special while I was there too!

I was filling with petrol yesterday after a good wash/waxing session. Heard "great car mate" from someone behind me, thought they were referring to the guy who was next to me with a 911, but he was talking to me. Gets a ridiculous amount of attention since it was painted.

I was driving mine last week & someone from the local Citroen garage did a full 180 watching me go past. :D

They are a rare sight now, especially in good condition.

I know of two that have gone from round me in the last 18 months, one to the scrapyard & one to be turned into a rally car apparently.

I don't feel bad about it at all, just I didnt think it had much life left in as the shell very tierd as it was & the one that was scrapped was a better shell imo. :o

An old woman watched me bumping mine the other day.... she said 'god that brings back good memories'. Get the odd comment of the people with the big flash cars too.

Going to miss that appreciation

I lost count of the amount of times that people came over to me in petrol stations. They would always start with "great car mate", and utlimately end with "is it for sale then?". Shame my two Gti's have now gone in the last 4 weeks :(

When I was working in the local hospital on-call the red one would often be parked at the front (badly/in a hurry). In the space of a year I had four notes left with "is it for sale". Must get it MOT'd soon!
