3Rd/high Level Brake Light Help

Recommended Posts

dirtdog

Always though my car was a PH2 being a '94 / L reg. So being a total klutz I just go out and buy a brake light off a 306 xsi (after reading mads thread that they just clip straight on to the later style boot lids).

..you can see where this is going. I don't have the holes. Just a single hole in the middle of the tailgate which I gather is for a spoiler. (Does anyone know which type? My last one F reg had a rubber one stuck to the glass)

There are other threads detailing the wiring of a universal unit but I'm actually fine (for a change!) when it comes to the wiring..they have all been chased and hidden nicely and I know what to splice the into etc etc. What I don't know..is how to fit this light now that I don't have the holes? Don't really fancy drilling holes unless thats the best way to go . A - because I don't have a drill at the moment and B - I don't want to mess my boot lid up, the cars bad enough as it is. Hey at least i'm honest!

So...what have you done, or what would you do?

I would buy a drill :)

well personally I wouldn't, I'd borrow my brothers one

I cant think of any other way to fix it, and to route the wiring, without a few holes.

I'll try and 'liberate' one from a friend. Have the wiring going under a little piece of trim edging along the headlining so no extra hole needed..yet. Have been thinking about just screwing it into this trim part..but it's not in the proper location then.

I'll pull my finger out and drill some holes and run the wires again. Running them through the bootlid looks like a real good time though :(

I'm also looking to do this mod, but with a standard 306 brake light.

Is there any trick known to feed the wire from the power source & earth (lower brake light) to the high level one?

I've a couple of 306 brake light units I've kept back to eventually do this.

I haven't lined the housing up to the 205 screen yet do not sure how neatly it will lay against it.

So is there a difference between the "spec" of the car and the high level light?? There are quite a few on the bay at the moment, from different models...

I don't think so. The lights off the 1.4 petrol and gti6 that I looked at in the scrappy were the same.

Chipstick - if you have the right holes in your boot, then it should automatically line up. Oh, were you the guy selling the vts rack on the citreon forum? Just wondering if it was sold?

Mines an 89 so the holes won't be there. I meant from an angle point of view.

No,I use the same username on there. I've one but it's going in mine at some point unfortunately.
