Clock Bulb In Bulb Holder

Recommended Posts

Are these supposed to seperate?

I want to change my LCD clock bulb and have some spare bulbs, but couldn't remove the bulb from the holder for the life of me.

I thought it may have been stuck more than the grip I could get from the glass, so I broke it and pulled on the filament with pliers with no luck in shifting it.

I looked on service box and the only reference I could find to it was a single part (bulb and holder) listed as Warning Light. Part No 6112 34 @ £4.55. Not only is that daylight robbery (see what I did there?) but I would also like to avoid going in especially for such a small item if I can get them elsewhere locally.

I have had a look around on here, and some people have said the bulb pulls out. I can only assume they mean the holder and bulb pull out.

It's an orange holder as below:

You can use a bulb and holder from a set of GTi instrument clocks in the LCD clock, and the bulb is certainly removable on those :)

See I tried one of those and the contact didn't play ball. The intrument clocks were from a base model though. And had S branded on them. Perhaps that is why.

I've replaced the bulb and holder on a couple of LCD clocks using the bulb/holder from some GTi clusters and it's worked fine.

That was with the "Sato" branded LCD clock, but I'm assuming that it will work on the "Borg" branded ones as well.

Borg rings a bell. I am sure that was stamped on the clock. I will have a look again. Thanks for the info :)

Back with an update which may be useful to others in future searches.

My original ph1.5 clock was a Sato unit. The contact strip for this is on the outside so standard instrument panel bulb holders fit these fine.

The clock I went to swap over is a ph2 Borg unit. But the contacts for this are on the inside edge, and therefore instrument panel bulb holders aren't comparable. The bulb needs to have metal lugs which make contact on the underside.

I found the correct bulb holder and bulb in halfords retailing at 2.99, down to 46 pence on trade. Halfords reference number is 509T.

:)
